Brushing teeth is a huge factor when it comes to dental hygiene. In fact, dentists often recommend that someone brush their teeth at least twice per day. This is important because brushing teeth takes care of the acidity in the mouth, removes plaque, removes food remains and gives you fresh breath.
However, when it comes to toothbrushes, the choice is not quite so direct. In the toothbrush market today, you will find all sorts of toothbrushes. These include the ordinary manual to the electric one and also the ever-popular sonic toothbrush. These toothbrushes each have their own pros and cons. However, the highest end one is the sonic toothbrush which usually cost north of $100. The big question is, are they worth it?
The Technology Behind It
The biggest aspect of how efficient sonic toothbrushes are, and their cost largely involves the technology behind the toothbrush. Unlike their younger siblings the electric toothbrushes which vibrate at about 2500 to 7000 strokes per minute, the sonic toothbrush surpasses that and clocks in an impressive 30,000 to 40,000 stokes in the same time frame. However, does this translate to a cleaner mouth?
Evidence has shown that the sonic toothbrush reaches areas which the normal toothbrush would find it difficult to get to. The extreme vibrations create a lot of energy which allows for the fluids in the mouth, such as saliva, toothpaste and water to get to areas where a regular toothbrush wouldn’t. The sonic toothbrush doesn’t just rely on the bristles to get to these difficult places. These sonic waves contribute a lot to making sure that plaque cells, which are unreachable by the bristle, are broken up.
Additionally, the sonic toothbrushes are a great tool for those with sensitive gums or tend to brush overly hard. Since the machine does most of the work, your job would only be to direct it. This way, your gums stay clean and unscathed. However, using sonic toothbrushes takes a little getting used to. If you haven’t used them before, the waves in your mouth can be a bit uncomfortable and therefore be a turnoff for some people.
